Trademarks
STI Web site pages might contain other proprietary notices and copyright
information that should be observed.
Trademarks owned by STI
This is a current listing of United States trademarks owned by STI and might
also be trademarks or registered trademarks in other countries. Please note
that laws concerning use and marking of trademarks or product names vary by
country. Always consult a local attorney for additional guidance.
Not all common law marks used by STI are listed on this page. Because of the
large number of products marketed by STI, STI's practice is to list only the
most important of its common law marks. Failure of a mark to appear on this
page does not mean that STI does not use the mark nor does it mean that the
product is not actively marketed or is not significant within its relevant
market.
Those trademarks followed by r are registered trademarks of STI in the United
States; all others are trademarks or common law marks of STI in the United
States.
This list is not a comprehensive list of all STI trademarks.

Fair Use guidelines for use and reference of STI trademarks
STI trademarks include the STI logo and other designs and logos
owned and used by STI, as well as STI product and service names. STI takes
great care in the development and protection of its trademarks and reserves all
rights of ownership of its trademarks.
Use of STI logos
STI carefully limits the use of its logos. No other company may use STI logos
unless it has the express written permission of STI, or is licensed by STI to do
so.
To obtain permission to use any STI logo, contact your STI representative or
512-343-1963.
Fair use of STI trademarks
"Fair use" of STI trademarks, that is, use by a third party without express
permission or license, is limited to text-only references to STI trademarks such
as product and service names, and excludes STI logos.
In such references, you must be truthful, must not disparage STI, and must not
mislead the public. You must be clear and accurate as to the nature of the
relationship between STI and your company, its products, and its services.
Following are two common types of fair use:
- When you are specifically referring to STI products. For example... STI: PopStats demographics is a demographic data package.
- When you are indicating that an STI product is compatible with another product. For Examples: a) XYZ is compatible with STI: PopStats data products; b) XYZ for STI: PopStats.
Please note that the emphasis should be on your product name and any
accompanying packaging produced by your company. Labeling should place emphasis
on your product name so that it is perceived as an application, developed with,
compatible with, or running on an STI product.
General rules for proper reference to STI product names
Following are general rules for proper usage of STI product names
- The first use of each STI product name mentioned in communications must be
identified in a footnote or attribution. The attribution must be located either
on the page/screen where the STI trademark is used, or in the legal section of
the communication or site in which it is referenced. Please note that laws
concerning use of trademarks or product names vary by country. Always consult a
local attorney for additional guidance.
Example: STI and STI: PopStats are trademarks of Synergos Technologies, Inc.
in the United States, other countries, or both.
- In the United States, the first reference in text to all STI product names
should be preceded by STI and followed by the proper trademark symbol. The
proper symbol for registered product names is ®. The proper symbol for product
names which are the subject of pending applications or are used in accordance
with common law trademark principles is ™.
Examples: STI: PopStats™ data is the leading demographic data ...
- A product name should be used as an adjective qualifying a noun that is a
generic description of the product or service. The product name should also be
used in a singular form.
Example: The STI data family includes over 5000 data fields.
- Do not change the form or representation of the product name, including
capitalization or punctuation.
Example: PopStats, WorkPlace, Spending Paterns
Use of "STI" as a company name
"STI", the 3 letters in text, is both a trademark of Synergos Technologies,
Inc., and an abbreviation of its company name. When "STI" is used to identify
the company Synergos Technologies, Inc., it is called a trade name. Trade name
usage typically applies when referring to a company as opposed to a particular
product. It is permissible to use STI as a possessive if you are referring to
STI the company. In that case the name does not identify goods or services
(which are legally the domain of trademarks).
Incorrect use of STI trademarks
- Do not omit a footnote/attribution for STI trademarks.
- Do not alter the approved STI trademark.
- Do not create any new logo for STI or STI product names.
- Do not incorporate any STI product names into your company's product names.
- Do not incorporate any STI product names into the root domain of any Web site owned by your company.
- Do not misspell or use lower case letters when using the name STI in text.
- Do not use the STI taglines.
- Do not connect your company name with STI product names.
- Do not use the STI trademark name for a product or service as a noun, or in the plural form.
- Do not misspell or incorrectly capitalize STI trademarks. Always include the letters STI before the trademarked STI name on the first usage.
