  • The Powerful Geocoding Tool from MapInfo

The Geocoding process -- searching for addresses, ZIP Codes® and other geographic information and assigning latitude and longitude coordinates -- is the first step in mapping database records. And MapMarker does it quickly and accurately. MapMarker v4.0 is equipped with an up-to-date address matching dictionary to ensure high hit rates when geocoding your company's data, and maps are included to allow you to visually display all your geocoded data. MapMarker can geocode files of millions of records in one-pass batch mode processing for the entire US. It intelligently manages errors such as misspellings and omissions, thereby preventing the need to clean your data.

Easy to Use, Powerful and Accurate
The intuitive MapMarker user interface walks you through the geocoding process, making it simple for you to geocode all your company's data and interactively match the results. Enhancements to MapMarker v4.0, such as increased geographic precision, candidate visualization, and column editing and creation make MapMarker more accurate and easier to use than ever. In addition, MapMarker's interactive processing mode notifies you upon failure to match an address and allows you to broaden match criteria (e.g., from street address to ZIP-Code centroid) to create a successful match. US Census information is attached to the geocoded records.

Client/Server Capability   MapMarker Geocoder Control (OCX) can be set up for deployment to many users, allowing you to geocode on demand by immediately assigning geographic coordinates to records as they are entered into your system, providing your business with the ideal Internet/intranet geocoding solution. MapMarker works in real-time, so the entire enterprise can gain access to the data without waiting, and when running in batch mode or as a point-of-sale application, it can be updated continuously to assure accuracy and to save valuable time. A customer service operator at a bank, for example, can take a phone call from a customer wondering where the nearest ATM is located. The operator simply types in the customer's address location, pulls up the map on the desktop computer, and tells the customer where to go. Once the customer's address is geocoded in a database, the bank can use the information to determine if additional ATMs are needed in the area.

Powerful Features and Enhancements   New features of MapMarker v4.0 include:

Candidate visualization: See your potential address matches before they're mapped using the MapMarker interactive dialog.

Attribution: Attribute data from separate point files, demographic and non-geographic data tables to geocoded records; MapMarker automatically attaches the attributes to the record in your database.

Write Geocoding Results to Separate Tables: Remote MapMarker users can geocode remote data tables and store their results in a separate table, thus preserving data integrity on the server; database administrators can later transfer the data updates to the database server.

Geocode Excel Tables: Microsoft® Excel users can now geocode data contained in Excel spreadsheets (ODBC connectivity required).

Create and Edit Columns: Users can add, remove, rename and change types of columns in MapMarker, without having to run MapInfo Professional® or other mapping software (not applicable for remote geocoding).

Update Existing Output: For unmatched records, the user controls whether MapMarker deletes previous values for a record or keeps the existing information; users can keep geocoding results from other sources where MapMarker cannot make a match.

    Additional enhancements to MapMarker v4.0:
    • New startup and mapping options for more user control.
    • Shortcut menu items (Quick Find, Quick Geocode and Create Batch File).
    • Quick Find address tool for matching incomplete addresses and browsing for exact matches.
    • User dictionary enhancements allow users to open up to 5 dictionaries at a time.
    • Interactive Candidate coding shows users the specificity of the interactive geocoding result.
Other powerful MapMarker features include:   US Postal Service CASS-Certification: MapMarker v4.0 meets USPS CASS-certification standards, including the ability to append ZIP+4® information to your data.

Direct Access via ODBC: MapMarker v4.0 uses ODBC drivers to allow you to geocode data directly on your corporate databases.

Fuzzy Search: MapMarker will search in a user-defined radius for a list of the most probable candidates to geocode an inaccurate record.

Faster Geocoding with user address dictionaries: MapMarker v4.0 allows you to create larger, more reliable user dictionaries. User dictionary creation has also been integrated into the MapMarker API to allow you to program functionality enhancements to your data dictionaries.

SpatialWare Support: MapMarker supports the SW_GEOMOETRY spatial data type when geocoding remote tables; SpatialWare 2.2 on Oracle users can geocode records, so coordinate information and spatial objects can be stored together in the remote table.

Standardized Development Interface   Developers can work easily in any environment with MapMarker's standardized interface. MapMarker is available as an OCX, a Windows® DLL and a UNIX® shared library that can be easily embedded and integrated into your company's in-house application or used in developing third-party geocoding applications. And with improvements to the MapMarker geocoder control and enhancements to the MapMarker API, developers will find MapMarker easier to work with than ever before.

MapMarker Options   MapMarker comes by the single state, in six-state packs or the entire U.S. and territories. Purchase the level of data-matching accuracy you want from MapMarker, depending on your needs. You can choose MapMarker options to match data to street address, ZIP+4 or ZIP-Code levels.

System Requirements   MapMarker 4.0 is available for Windows® 95 and Windows NT®. MapMarker Geocoder Control is available for Windows 95, Windows NT and Sun® Solaris® 2.4 & 2.5. CD-ROM required for installation. Full software installation requires 12 MB of disk space. Full data installation for the entire US requires 780 MB (each state averages about 15 MB). The data may be left on the CD-ROM.
