Between Jobs represents the most economically stressed profile in the Black Gateway category. Predominantly Black urban neighborhoods combine very low incomes and homeownership with high unemployment, poverty and a large share of single or nontraditional households. Educational attainment is limited, and service work is especially important. The segment is distinguished by weak labor-market attachment and unusually constrained household resources.
